Bulletproof Protein Fast
I tried the protein fast recommended by Dave Asprey The Bulletproof Executive. The reasons to have a protein fast once per week is it allows your digestive system to perform 'maintenance'. As you are not taking in protein you actually digest your own protein which is called autophagy. This may sound like a thing you don't want to happen but actually it allows your cells to self repair, also your enzymes are able to clear out toxins and 'cell debris'. Dave also says it can greatly improve your sleep quality as it improves your mitochondria function, as well as increase weight loss.
I started the morning off with a bulletproof coffee which included 1-2 tablespoons of unsalted butter and 1-2 tablespoons of Brain Octane Oil. I took a smoothie I had prepared at home with me to work and had this at 1.00pm. My smoothie recipe is listed at the end. For dinner I had a baked sweet potato, with salted butter and homemade guacamole (recipe below). To cater to my sweet tooth I had 6 small squares of 85% dark chocolate. Dave suggests that you keep the protein content to below 15g for the whole day. You need to watch what you eat as lots of food contain protein including vegetables so you really need to check this out before you decide what to eat. I used the following Nutrition Calculator http://www.nutritionvalue.org/ you just add in your ingredients and it works out everything for you. Really great tool. I'm happy to say that I didn't feel hungry today. I'm used to fasting with Bulletproof coffee so changing my meals a little to exclude protein was really very simple. To find out more I've included Dave's you tube video below or you can visit his blog via this link for more info
